A temporary bypass cable can be costly, but saves you peace of mind by supplying electricity to your home in the midst of a damaged underground service drop.

What is the cost of having a temporary bypass installed?

The cost for a temporary bypass install is a flat fee of $261.00.  This charge covers the first 30 days of service, and is billed to customers through their retail electric provider.  The charge is in addition to the electric usage charges on the customer’s bill.

What happens if the customer requests more time to have repairs made?

If the customer needs the temporary bypass to remain installed beyond 30 days, an additional $261.00 is billed on the date the bypass cable agreement expires.  This charge is recurring for each month the bypass cable remains installed.

If the customer’s bypass cable agreement is about to expire and just a few more days are needed for the bypass to remain installed while the electrician finishes up on the repairs, or while they await the permit to be released from the city to CenterPoint Energy, an extension can be granted without rebilling.  Please contact the temporary bypass desk, or provide customers with the direct contact number if they request this option.
